Possibly someone else knows what you mean by this but I don't
understand. What kind of stuff do you want to save? Where do you want
to put it?

I should have said: is there a backup tool different than the one in Vista.
In Vista, there is no possibility to use it manually.
In XP, I used the backup utility in a Desktop for My documents every night
just before going to bed or I had to leave out of town and make a backup to
use it on a Notebook.

No worry with the time of the backup

Much freedom than in Vista!

Although it's not manual Titan Backup is well regarded, free and it
can be localised to provide a French-language interface. The sync
function makes it possible to keep files and/or folders on two
computers the same. Would this do the job for you?
