Since I had to re-install Vista OS I find I can no longer save files on the
desktop.

I cannot find a fix for this. Anyhelp would be appreciated.

What happens when you try?
BTW, it's not a good idea to save stuff on the desktop - the desktop is a
special folder not designed for data...

DUH - It probably gives him an error! Maybe he doesn't have Admin rights.

Thanks but yes I do have admin rights and I have often saved files there
before. a quick route to finding as when I need to add as an attachment as
the desktop link is always there in the left menu and has very little
clutter. I move the files when finished but this is a pain!

There is no reason why you should not save files on the Desktop, other than
it is bad file organisation practice to keep them there. I always use the
Desktop to save files from the internet, before filing them elsewhere, and
for saving work-in-progress files.

And then why is it called the Desktop? Think of of it as your desk top, and
drives and folders as your filing cabinet.

Certainly in previous versions of Windows the Desktop was prone to
corruption when used as data storage. Maybe they've fixed that in Vista, but
I still say it's not a good place to STORE data.

That might be a stretch for Gordon. Start with simple concepts!

I agree with both halves of that statement.

Although I don't personally do what you do, my view is that it's fine.
You put them there, but apparently only for a short time, and they
aren't kept there.

Gee I don't know if you read that before you sent it but I certainly do not
count myself as a dummy which is what you are implying. Its replies like
that that stop people with genuine problems from posting.

BTW my complaint is still valid maybe you can use that brilliance to tell me
how to fix this? I can use it fine on the other 4 computers in my network
all running on Vista.
