saving old emoticons

so all my emoticons are gone, like everyone elses, but the thing is, I had a
bunch of friends send me some of my old ones that they had and when I tried
to save them like the old ones, it told me that those images are already in
use for another emoticon, but I can't access my old emoticons through the
emoticon button and they don't appear when I type them in a conversation.
Does that mean that my emoticons are still somewhere on my
computer/messenger? if so, how do I access them?

I'm really sorry that you're having problems with custom emoticons. Could
