I use 'Computer' (use to be called Windows Explorer) a lot in Windows Vista
Home Premium to manage my hard drive. It's a nuisance that it starts up as a
too small window and I have to stretch it each time to see more. Is there a
way to force it to memorize the previous state and restore? Thanks.

Windows Explorer is in EXACTLY the same position as it was in XP!

Start>Programs?Accessories>Windows Explorer>right click on it, and send it
to the desktop as a shortcut; just like in XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has been said that after you have resized your window,
right click anywhere above the address bar
and use 'close' from there. It may work for you.

The window size will depend on the last open window size that you close. If
all the explorer windows are closed, the last one to be closed will
determine the window size of the next explorer window you open.

After some more experimenting, I see that the last window you close,
regardless of whether or not it is the last remaining one, will determine
the size of the next explorer window that you open.

them work for me. What a nuisance having to re size the window each time

Windows Explorer is still where it was at
Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer

To make it easier create a desktop shortcut with the command line

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,C:\

( or substitute any other Drive/Folder path for C: ), open that and
adjust the window.
You should then have a better chance of keeping the size you want. You
could have more than one such shortcut and you can root ( add "/root,"
after "/e," ) at the chosen folder if you wish.

After trying this again, it did work. Thanks. I'm thinking that clicking on
'Computer' in the Start panel and going to 'Windows Explorer' in Accessories
is pretty much the same thing. I like 'Computer' better because it brings up
the folder I was last at whereas Windows Explorer insists on going to
'Documents'

Hi Jon,

Try Method Two in this tutorial to help Vista remember your view
settings of the window when it was last closed.
