SBS 2003 BPA question

Hi to all,

I am planning a migration to sbs 2008 in the near future, still working on
choosing the hardware phase.

Just ran the SBS BPA today and got a warning that I can't seem to find an
answer for:

Managed Recipient Policies
The Mailbox Manager setting is enabled for one or more recipient policies.
As a result, the recipient policies will not be upgraded if you migrate to
Windows SBS 2008 and Exchange Server 2007.
This certainly caught my eye. I dont recall making any changes in there, and
when I look at the Exchange System Manager under Recipients > Recipient
Policies I just see the default policy.

Is this something I should be concerened about? Am I even looking in the
right place?

I do have some non-mailbox email addresses going to the boss's email account
(eg. goes to ) could this be what
this warning is warning me about? If not, where do I start troubleshooting
this warning?

TIA

Thanks Cris,
I am looking in there, and I don't see anything that I could have changed.
Under Mailbox Manager Settings (policy) Each folder has the age set to 30
and the size is 1024 kb. Are these not the default settings? on the top:
When processing a mailbox, the option is generate report only.
I was hoping for a link in the BPA but there is none.

Is this warning something to be concerned about?

If you right click on that policy, and go to properties you should see a
setting for the Mailbox Manager
Usually the BPA will give you a link for more information.

Yes

check out www.sbsmigrationtips.com as it's a warning that if you don't
fix it you'll hit a roadblock

Also run the IT health scanner tool

Thanks Susan,
Thats quite a list to go thru, I am going to roll up the sleeves and get
started. I do have that journal wrap issue that is mentioned, I was just
now looking up everything I could about that one. I see the gotcha on your
blog about losing sysvol.
Glad I found it BEFORE I tried fixing

Hi Murphy,

Thanks for your post and others' input.

In addition, have you tried just disable the "Mailbox Manager Settings (Policy)" tab?

The following are quoted from SBS blog for your troubleshooting reference:
=============
If you have Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2000 policies that are BOTH E-mail Addresses and Mailbox Manager policies (they have both the Mailbox Manager Settings
(Policy) tab and the E-mail Addresses (Policy) tab), perform the following steps to remove the mailbox manager portion of the policy:

1. In Exchange System Manager, expand Recipients, and then select Recipient Policies.
2. Right-click the policy, and then select Change property pages.
3. Clear the Mailbox Manager Settings check box, and then click OK.

How to check for duplicate/invalid SMTP addresses in recipient policies:

1. In Exchange System Manager, expand Recipients, and then select Recipient Policies.
2. Right-click the policy, and then select E-Mail Addresses (Policy) tab.
3. Inspect the SMTP Addresses for any that are unchecked. If you find any, place a check in the box or remove that address.
4. Inspect the SMTP Addresses for any that have an IP address. For instance, @192.168.1.1. If you find any, remove those addresses that contain an IP address.
5. Click OK.
=============
