Hi folks,
Hoping someone can help me
After spending yesterday prepping the source server- running both SBS 2003
Best Practices Analyzer and Exchange Best Practices Analyzer (and resolving
all issues until they both came back clean), full backup, Migration Prep
Tool, answer file etc I was finally ready to get going with the destination
server today. I was very thorough with the documentation, taking it all step
by step.
All looked well, until it seemed to hang on what looked to be a final step.
I don't recall getting the replication delay pop-up that I've seen mentioned,
but at any rate it got to the stage where it started up and prepared the
desktop. When the desktop appeared, I was faced with a Help window advising
that the installation had failed and I had to start from scratch.
When I checked the log, the last line I can see:
"Task: Waiting for replication to finish"
When I open the SBS Console to check Users or Roles, I get an error
"The Windows SBS Console feature is not set up correctly"
Lastly, on the Task Pad, when I click View Installation Issues:
"The installation of Windows Small Business Server 2008 cannont finish.
Status- Active"
AD Users and Computers in Administrative Tools shows all my users. There's
no log for Exchange (a good thing) and when I open the console, I can see
placeholders for all the mailboxes that have yet to be shifted. There are no
obvious network issues- I can browse to the source server by name or IP;
gateway and internet access are all fine. Its looks like replication is
fine, but it won't let me even attempt to run the Migration Wizard (even just
for a peek!). When I attempt this logged in as Administrator, it doesn't like
it, and when I log in as another named user with administrative privileges, I
get a box to the effect that the migration wizard has stopped working.
I'm at a loss, despite much Googling and attempting minor fixes. I think I
have no choice but to start again, but if I do that, I believe I'm going to
have to restore the source server from backup as well.
Please, please, any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
T.
