Hi

Im having a big issue at my hands and would be very grateful for some quick
help here!

I have on a vmware ESXi server a SBS 2008 premium OS installed.
This virtual server crashed in a veeam backup, it was some sort of snapshot
problem etc, anyway after this the server rebooted and when trying to log on
to the server it said somerhing like "no server available to handle your
logon request".
The only way to get in to the server is in safe mode.

So what i now have is a backup that is a couple of days old, im trying to
restore this right now (to a new virtual machine) and waiting for that
result. But when that is finished i have a couple of days old exchange
database files on the hopefully working server.
Now, on the old one, where i only can enter in safe mode i have access to
the folder "First storage group" where i have the .edb file and some log
files.
I now hope there is a way of moving theese files into the new server to be
able to restore theese mails that is in the log files and that "base" edb
database file... is there a way? I need to move the logfiles into that
database first maybe and then mount that .edb file in the new server and
manually move mailboxes or something? there are only about 10 mailboxes so
its ok to do some manual labor on this one.

Thanks in advance!
/Perra

Hello Perra,

Thanks for your post.

You may try to restore a mailbox store to a Recovery Storage Group(RSG) and then mount the database store, then extract or merge mailbox data from the Recovery
Storage Group to the regular storage group using Microsoft Exchange Merge Wizard (Exmerge.exe tool).

You can restore a mailbox store to a Recovery Storage Group by using either of the following methods:

" Restore a mailbox store from an online backup.
" Manually copy database files to the appropriate folder on the server.

Please follow the steps in KB824126 to create a RSG and restore you previous database store.
