I have a SBS 2003 Domain that we need to add an additional DC to for Recovery
Purposes. The guy who bought the second server didnt know it came with SBS
also and we were wondering if we could run a SBS network with two SBS boxes.
One will run exchange etc the other will run as a DC only.

Can this be done?

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately that is not possible. If SBS 2003 is installed, no other SBS
2003 or 2000 server can be installed on the same domain. For more details
take a look at the following article:

How to install Small Business Server 2003 in an existing Active Directory
domain

So does this mean that it can act as a DC hosting a part of the AD. I dont
need the other APPS i just need to have the SBS #2 box accepting logons etc.

No - You cannot have 2 SBS servers in same Domain at all. You will have to
get a Standard server to do this job.

I have found that in many cases, servers bundled w/SBS are priced very
agressively and the SBS cost component is negligible. You may still qualify
for Windows Server OEM, if you want to go that route with the licensing
restrictions limiting the license to the server you initially install it on.

Thanks Dave,

I've accepted the fact that SBS will not work in this case so I'm in the
process of purchasing W2k3STD
