After browsing the web I'm still not sure whether sharepoint 3, which is
included in SBS2008 could be of any help to me.
I am a small architect and would like to manage project data using
sharepoint.

- Can I use sharepoint 3 to enable people to open / edit / save files
located in folders on my network, while the file can also be opened useing
normal windows explorer on th enetwork?
- Can I use sharepoint 3 to centrally save / disclose e-mail related to a
project
- Can I use Shaerpoint for timesheets?

As my main interest is the SBS2008 shaerpoint version, I ask thi squestion
in a SBS group and not in a sharepoint group.

Unfortunately, you're asking it in a newsgroup which has been abandoned,
as Microsoft is in the process of pulling out of Usenet.

Here's what you want now:

Sharepoint stores all te document data in a SQL database, not on a
fileshare. So that answers your first question and, I suspect, rules
out Sharepoint as an option for you. People *can* open the files in
explorer, but they have to browse to the Sharepoint folder (WEBDAV)
and open it from there, rather than a normal UNC \\server\share
address.
