scan for updates causes cpu to max out

Hi all. When i try and check for updates, my computer locks up. I have to go
into task manager and kill the scv.exe (i think) that's max'd it out.
Thoughts anyone??

Do a search on "cpu" in the "subject" area of this group and you will see
the assembled knowledge on the Cpu 100% problem while doing a windows update
on systems that have cpu's with less than super human mega hertz.

I think for now you will just have to start it and then go and have
lunch/dinner/supper..... breakfast (keep eating till its finished).

MS do not seem in any hurry to correct this issue I am afraid and it would
appear nobody inside the castle is looking at any of these posts.
