Scandisk on Windows Vista isn't working....

I just recieved a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop only a couple of weeks ago. When
I first tried running the Scandisk for the main hardrive, it froze at 9% in
the first scanning stage. I tried it over and over again and I got the same
results. I bought a new Norton Anti-virus program and a few other programs
to try and fix the problem, but the problem still remains. PLEASE, HELP ME
OR GIVE ME SOME ADVICE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM!!! Many thanks!

TAKE IT BACK for warranty repair or replacement.
