Scanning While Sleeping?

I'm running Vista Home Premium SPA, 2 GB RAM, Firefox, Spyware Doctor, MBAM,
SAS and CCleaner, Office 2007. I also have Spyware doctor installed on a
Windows 7 laptop.

Can anyone tell me (or redirect me) if my Spyware Doctor scanner (or any
other scheduled scanner) runs when the computer is either sleeping or is in
hibernate mode? My Spyware Doctor history file suggest that it's been
several weeks since the last scheduled scan, yet the scanner scheduler is
set to run every night. We close the laptop cover each night and I'm not
sure if closing the cover stops the scheduled scan from running.

Thanks in advance for your assistance..............Paul C.

I don't know what your laptop does but in Task Scheduler you can set the
computer to wake up to preform tasks.

.. and Pyotr, thanks for your insights on this.

Based on both your comments I assume my Spyware Doctor scanner should run ok
if we leave the laptop cover open and let it go into `screensaver' mode.
That is, don't let it hibernate or sleep. I suppose another option would be
to have the scanner run upon startup.

Thanks for your help.....Paul C.

Another option, of course, install Linux and forget it.

In my experience the computer will wake up if hibernating or sleeping.

However if waking from hibernating I find it often, but not always, goes to
sleep before running the command. Then it will run the command as soon as I
wake up the computer by using it.

As I use Task Scheduler to play loud music to wake me up I have to only
choose Sleep.

Last night I confirmed that if I leave the cover open on the laptop that the
Spyware Doctor scanner WILL run. The history file now says that the
overnight scanner ran for the first time since May 17th, so apparently
closing the cover means the scheduled scan will not run. Perhaps I can get
it to run if I use Task Scheduler and can't get it to wake the computer up.
However, in that scenario, I'm not sure if Task Scheduler will work since
the wake up process (from a closed cover situation) requires a password to
re-engage the computer.

I'll try to see if I can get Task Scheduler to solve this
problem.............Paul C.

You can usually change the behavior of a laptop on close cover.

Sleep should allow a task to run if you schedule it to do so; I doubt that
hibernate will, since hibernate turns the computer all the way off.

The BIOS wakes the computer from hibernate.

OK, I set up an experiment and verified that you're correct and I'm not :-)
