chanook*xyz* My vista home basic 32 bit is running great at the present
time. I have not as yet received the automatic update for SP1 and after
checking MS and reading all info on this post site, the only thing I'm
wondering if I need is KB935509--a bitblocker???? Have no idea what that is
and if it is necessary for me to have with home basic. Can someone help me
with an answer to that? thank you very much for any info. I am so afraid
of downloading this in any way shape or form.

Bitlocker is not part of your version of Vista. It is only supplied with
Enterprise or Ultimate.
A software update is available for versions of Windows Vista that include
the Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption feature

thank you, Mark, for your helpful info. that does take a load off of my
mind. think I will wait until at least 4-18-08 and see of the update comes
on my automatic update. if it doesn't, I'll cross that bridge at that time
chanook*xyz* Bye the way I don't have a "ratings button" showing???

If you install the "BitBlocker", all you're going to do is prevent SP1
from ever being installed. The BitBlocker is used by companies that
don't yet want SP1 to be automatically installed.

What are you talking about? You're thinking of the Service Pack Blocking
Tool.

Bitlocker is an encryption tool that encrypts your hard drive(s) so that
they can't be removed from your computer and used by someone else. It's a
security feature.

If you read the orginal post by Chanook, you see he mentione
"BitBlocker" not "BitLocker" - The "B" and "L" keys on the keyboard ar
too far apart for that to have been a simple typo

- Bit-Locker- is full drive encryption
- Bit-Blocker- is a tool used by companies to prevent th
installation of SP1

The OP also mentions KB935509 which talks about BitLocker
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935509

I think 'BitBlocker' is a case of mis-reading (rather than a typo).

There is an old saying, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it!"

If you are happy with it. Do not apply SP1.
