Screen Blackout

Pa Bear
Thanks for coming back to me.
Sorry about the hi-jack.

I run M/S windows xp s/pack 2 version 2003, all my equipment is HP.

I can manage to get onto the desktop and sometimes I can open outlook
express home page, after a couple of minutes my screen goes black and tells
me it is going to sleep.
The only way I can get any response is to shut down by use of the button on
the systems unit, tonight it took two goes at getting onto this group. If I
am lucky and my screen stays open all seems ok, its just getting started.

At first I thought it might be because I had downloaded KB934268 now I not
so sure, I think it could be KB934238; anyway it seem to me that I have had
the problem since the downloads.

Would these downloads cause this problem? Should I remove them? One tells
you that it can not be removed, Maybe there are other reasons for my problem;
would appreciate any feedback. In basic computer language Please.

All my updates are done automatically, but I have the final say: to date I
have always had success. But lately I find it near impossible to view the
express or custom pages; it just sits and sits checking for updates.

I await to see if you can help me.

Check the settings in control panel "Power Options".

For a fix to this problem, please do BOTH of the following:

1. For 32-bit systems, download and save to hard disk, and then install:
<http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe>

2. (not for Vista) Download and install update KB927891 version 3:
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891>

If the first of these produces an error message about "Update agent already
installed", then execute the installer again manually, with parameter
/wuforce as in:

WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce

After the fixes have been installed, doing a Microsoft Update or Automatic
Update might still take some time (though not as much as before) and
processor and disk usage, but it should not lock out user-level interaction
with the system and applications, so it should not be such an inconvenience.

By the way, do you have Office 2003 installed?
