Screen resolution changes randomly

I am using a 19" widescreen LCD display on Vista system and have been with no
issues for most of a year. Recently, it displayed the message "Out of Range"
during standard operation, not on start-up. Troubleshooting showed that the
screen resolution had changed from the value I had set previously. I reset
it, and now it seems to randomly change to other values (sometimes too low,
sometimes too high), not related to starting up, user changes, or display
sleep. My history shows no recent Vista updates. Any thoughts?

It may be that your LCD monitor is beginning to fail.
Contact the monitor manufacturer for troubleshooting advice.

1. Attach the computer to a different monitor. If the problems go away,
replace the first monitor.

2. If the problems continue on a different monitor, you can try upgrading
your video drivers but it is more likely that your video card is dying and
should be replaced.
