Screen Resolution Problem

When my computer boots up it will originally show a screen of
1024x768 pixels and then finish booting up with 640x480 pixels. I then have
to go into properties and change the setting to 1024x768 pixels.
The correct “plug & play”monitor is listed in the settings window. I tried
resetting the monitor (NEC Multisync LCD1530V) but nothing changes. I should
note that this monitor has worked for years with my SONY pc and just
developed this problem in the past 2 weeks.
Even though I have reset the screen resolution to 1024x768 pixels, selected
apply, and OK, the monitor will automatically switch over to 640x480 pixels
“every hour on the hour” for approximately 30-40 seconds, and then return to
1024x768 pixels. I remember recently downloading a patch for my HP Director
file (because all of a sudden it would not open) and the fix said something
about it may cause the resolution to change but it would not affect anything
other than the HP Director window.

The monitor doesn't really matter here. It's your video driver that's
acting up.

I've found Windows Updates for video often screw things up.

Check the manufacturer fior a later driver, or roll back the one that's
there
