Screensaver problems

I have done some of everything to cleanup my PC which I have windows XP with
the Sp2 pack update. I am not very savy when it comes to these things but
for some reason my screensave which is a standard screensaver just stopped
activating when it should unless I do a shutdown restart and don't sign on.
I was tempted to uninstall my XP and reinstall but I am nervous about doing
this when it told me other things might not work if I uninstall Windowns XP.
Can somenone help a middle aged lady who enjoys using her PC? Thanks

You may already have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.

download AdAware SE Personal Edition from www.lavasoftusa.com, install,
update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from
your system.
