1) Same old screensaver not coming on in spite of settings. Due to use of
optical mouse. I used MS fix 911895 before with success but this time it
didn't work.

"This issue may occur if the PCM and DVDLauncher services are running in the
background. The PCM service is used to start media programs faster. The
DVDLauncher is a program that is used for DVD playback."

--- but these are not listed in the services.

following symptoms when the computer is inactive:"

Well I solved the first problem, so I'm posting it to help out anybody else.
Except it's not exactly the very precise steps...

I had tried this before as well, but for some reason it worked this second
time around.

In Device Manager under Human Interface Devices I got rid of the first one
HID Non-User Input Data Filter, then I think I told it to scan for hardware
changes and it put it back in automatically.

It's just amazing having a screensaver again.

Now if anyone can reassure me about the driver question below for the
resolution changes that would be great.

Also, an official microsoft rep through the website told me to just restore
from a time before, then reinstall stuff. (yeah, right) but I couldn't
access stuff from more than about a month or two ago, even when I checked
"show points before 30 days ago"

Why is this?

Thanks,
Susan
