I had been looking into getting the new Seagate 550gb external Free
Agent Pro. I may still... but I FINALLY got and answer to my question
regarding the software suite/tools that come with/support the drive:

Wow.....

I checked the Seagate site and it says it supports Vista as shown here

'Answer'

When i bought mine from the shop it also came with a different
country's Ac Adapter !!!! So i had to use my laptop ac adapter instead
which i think may not be providing enough juice since the ac light seems
to flash a bit.

However it did start the HD on my vista pc, but no pop up to install
the driver ever showed !!

So i tested on my other pc next door using XP all updated. STILL DIDNT
WORK !!

This is definitely a non-starter! Until you get a correct power supply,
there is no way to address this problem. It is rarely wise to substitute
power supplies, especially to devices as finicky as external hard drives.
The shop you bought from should supply the factory provided power supply.
Perhaps you can buy one from the website. The manufacturer often insists you
use their supplied USB cable as well.

Good luck
