Search / access rights ?

I do not run UAC.
I run as administrator (not super admin)

As part of cleaning things up and keeping track of what's where, I found
that I can access "Temp" using %temp% in start/search, and it will open the
temp folder which I otherwise did not have access to, and delete its
contents.

After some playing and using the sub options of search, found that I could
use search to open the Internet settings folder, and delete its contents.

I also see that some of these folders I'm going after have what looks like
"shortcut" icons.

1. What does the shortcut icon mean and where (sxs?) is the real folder?

2 Why can't I simply access the folder straightup rather than using search
to bypass security (if that is what I am doing)?

3. How can I make my life easier? (I simply want to access what I want to
access and get on with my life.)

4 Is it possible to do a global change on user (security) and own
everything?

tia!!!!!
(remember, my first computer was a 7070/2/4 with 1401 as IOCS) (1962)
