Search function continues to find deleted files

On Vista Home Prem. even after I permently delete media files, the search
function still finds links to the deleted files. Of course I can't open these
files because they don't exist, but I also can't delete them for the same
reason. When I try to delete the file I get a 'Could not find this item'
message with a thumbnail of the deleted media file.

How do I delete these links and thumbnails?

did somebody say that vista serach is crap?
Its in the index and you have to rebuild it now.. oh what fun...

First thing I do is turn off the indexing on ANY machine!

MS blundered badly to make indexing a part of windows...
I has msn desktop search on XP and I puked and removed it after 1 week...

and now they brought that crap technology to vista

The indexing concept is good. MS blundered badly in not making it work
properly before it became a part of windows. So much potential, but so
much pain.

Carl,
I don't turn it off on any machine. I help computer club members install
their new machines for a $20 to the club, vs. what the employees of big box
stores get. In fact, I am generally called in after the big box store has
"installed" the machine. I to very carefully instruct the member to leave
the computer on while the index is being built. Their response is usually:
"Do you really mean overnight?" My answer to that is for seven days and
seven nights. With automatic updates turned on many things happen during
those hours. Most of our members don't delete files (really), don't search
for anything on their computers, they send and receive e-mail messages and
prepare an occasional letter (I have had them install OpenOffice) Most are
not tweakers!

Start > Right-click 'Recent Items' > Clear Recent Items List

I frown on you and your "advice". I would gladly slap you in the face for
that!

Here is a virtual slap: SLAAAAPPPPP!!!!!

Plus the new vista Sleep mode never turns off the power completely.
This is a plague of modern day devices and MS managed to put it into VISTA!
For this reason alone vista should be banned or this should be changed with
SP1.
When in sleep mode the power supply and other circuits are still draining
power...
My desktop when in sleepmode still makes noise since the power supply is
still running, its fans rotating...

Not much you may say.. but VCRs and TVs also stay on in the same way waiting
for the remote control

Power that creates greenhouse emotions.

They also managed to hide hibernation and you need a tweak to let it show
again.

These are foolish people. This is a crime to humanity.

In fact this sort of "standby" technology is a DISASTER for ecology... since
all these standby machines (and now computers) are draining power for no
reason at all....

the power is created by burning fossil fuel. The proper way is to initiate
hibernate, or turn off the damn thing when not in use!


The world is headed for a - out of control global warming- that will
devastate this planet.

And here is my advise to you ... , I suggest you stop giving stupid advice,
unplug your computer, and become a farmer.

I can agree with you on that...

IF they made it so changes would be reflected to the database with no
errors, and it would use very little resources and never be corrupt and be
fast and be smarter and portable and backupable...

then perhaps I might consider liking it!
