Any word yet on whether we'll get Search added back to our right click
context menus? I miss it and want it back.

Thanks

If you are running Windows Vista SP1 beta, the Search link on the Start menu
has been removed. If you are not, then it has somehow been unchecked, right
click Taskbar > click Properties > Start Menu (tab) > Customize > scroll
down and make sure the 'Search' option is checked.

Brandon Leblanc over at the Windows Vista Experience Blog explains why:

Quote:
"Microsoft has recently published a KB article outlining changes to Windows
Vista's desktop search in SP1 but I'd like to elaborate a little bit based
on my own experience with the changes. Windows Vista SP1 allows the user to
change their default desktop search provider from the built-in Windows
Desktop Search that ships with Windows Vista to another 3rd party desktop
search provider. As noted above, the Search option has been removed from the
right side of the Start menu. Users will also notice "See all results" has
disappeared when doing a search via the Start menu. Instead, you will see
"Search Everywhere". Search Everywhere will launch whatever is the user's
default desktop search program. In Windows Explorer, users will also see a
"Search Everywhere" option in the toolbar as well."

Thanks Andrea. Yes, I just installed RC 1 Refresh on Monday and just noticed
yesterday that it was missing. I did a search here and found another post
about the same thing and just thought I would ask if there had been any news
updating it. I guess we have Google to thank for this.

Yeah, we can thank Google. They threw a hissy fit when they discovered
that Windows Vista Search was superior to their own, and then they went
running to the DOJ crying foul.

If anyone reading this post works for Google, or is associated with
Google in any way, please pass this message on to your bosses - You won
your case against Microsoft and got them to lower the importance of
Windows Vista Search, but I'm still not going to use Google Search. If
you really want us to use it, then I suggest you re-write the whole
thing and make it better than Windows Vista Search. Until then, quit
being such sore losers and stick to what you know best: Intenet
Searching. Leave the Desktop Search market to those who know how to
integrate it into an OS without killing it.

Let me get this streight...
Microsoft removed the search option from Vista because it competes with
Google's desktop search?
But Windows has always had a search function, way before Google even started
up!
I tried Google's desktop search once, and I hated it.
Surely Microsoft should at least give us the option to download and
re-install their original search function, instead of having to resort to
that nasty Google search?
We, the consumers should have the right to choose!

What do you mean by "RC1"? If you mean SP1, then the search has NOT been
removed. It's still there....
