I'm having trouble with Search and don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Say I want to search for a file 1recycler.txt but I don't really know the
full name but just know the part of it such as 'recycler'. Why can't it
find everything with that word in it? Better yet, if it can, how do I do
this search?

I've tried Advanced Search with some different parameters but no luck. XP
can find the file but not Vista.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

Try using the non-indexed search with "Find partial matches" checked.
Set your settings to the same as the ones you see at this link. It is
for a more thorough search and should help.

I don't know about 1recycler.txt--but the folder "recycler" as in
C:\recycler shows up when you type control folders in run box>View>take ck.
radio button out of Hide files and folders.

If you can find a download for DX Hog Hunt, that is often helpful for
showing all files and folders.

Tip: Google Desktop can accumulate files that take up real estate of over a
GB or more at C:\Users\Your Profile\App Data\Local\Google. Deleting the
large file, if it is taking considerable space does nothing to interfere
with Google desktop search.
