I am trying the change the security settings in Vista and when I type:
secpol.msc

At the command line I get: MMC could not create the snap-in.

When I try to do it manually, I get the message below.

Can someone help?

Thanks.

------------------------

Microsoft Management Console

---------------------------

MMC cannot initialize the snap-in.

Name: Group Policy Object Editor

CLSID: {8FC0B734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}

---------------------------

OK

Hi em_Ct,

What version of Vista are you using? The Vista Home Basic and Home
Premium version do not have the secpol.msc.

Sorry,
Shawn

em_CT,

I'm glad you found a work around to your problem to achieve your goal.

You might try running a "sfc /scannow" (no quotes) in a elevated
command prompt to see if it can fix the problem with the secpol.msc.
This will show you how.

If that fails, you can do a Repair install to fix it.

Shawn,

Thanks for the lead, I did run run sfc/ scannow and it did find corrupt
files and it did repair them. I did find the log files, but I could not open
them.
It did not however fix my original problem, but it does not matter.

Regards,
Egmont

Egmont,

If you ever need it fixed, a "Repair Install" or "Clean Install" (duh,
LOL) will do it.

Have a good one,
Shawn
