Secure backup solution for Vista Ultimate 32-bit

I'd appreciate some pointers on affordable backup solutions (external hard
drive + software) that can offer both a) selective file restoration and b)
complete system recovery, in both cases including secure protection of the
backup files (via encryption and/or password).

I bought a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus, but it does a lot less than the
retailer's description suggested, so am planning to return it.

Specifically, the folder and file-specific "backup" functions - which can be
protected with a hard drive password and/or encrypted - can save selected
files, but won't handle email files (doh!). The other option is to back up
the whole PC. This doesn't allow selective file restoration and also can't be
used in conjuction with the One Touch 4 Plus's security features. So it
basically appears to be useless for my needs.

I was thinking about buying Retrospect for Windows and using it with the
drive I've bought, but the software doesn't seem to support Maxtor external
hard drives.

Any and all suggestions invited and appreciated! Am UK-based, btw.

Thanks, SG. Seems to tick most of the boxes, including offering password
protection - although no encryption. Assume I'm looking at the right product
in Acronis True Image 11 Home.
