Hello,

we would like to delete securely a whole hard drive for some of our
servers and workstations.

After this operation, we dont want to be able to recover the files with
any third application.

My question is :
Do you know any software that is doing this through a bootable media
(cdrom or usb) and quite quickly ?

Thank you

good afternoon.

Don't know any but should be easily googable.

one hint though, if it's quick, don't trust.

other than that, linux live cd, dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/sd(fill in here)
say, 20 times.
if not enough, thermite should do what you want. a little overkill, but i
assure you that the data becomes unreadable !!!

hand

Securely? That would mean overwriting the entire drive with random
bits - two or three passes should be enough unless there is a real fear
that someone would want to spend the time and money to inspect the
platters with a magnetic probe (microscope).

It will take as long as it takes.

You can google for secure wipe and probably find some offerings.

Eric:

I went through the same issue last year. The challenge with the servers is
that they use RAID hardware, which requires special drivers. See my post at
http://melkeyser-it.blogspot.com/200...s-on-dell.html
for details on how I resolved my issue.

If you use BitLocker to encrypt the disk, then without the TPM chip and the
key, you have useless bits. The truly paranoid can remount the disks in
another system, and format, unpartition, or repartion them. And you can
encrypt without TPM, if you are willing to go thru all that requires.

DBAN will do nuke your disks, give it a try:
http://www.dban.org/

Hope this helps.

Alrey:

Can you get DBAN to access RAID volumes for major servers like Dell and HP?
Is there a simple way to do that?
