EVs don't need an update from MS, unless it's for a new root certificate.
The EV cert itself has the necessary flags required to cause IE to show the
green bar.
Just looking at renewing an SSL certificate today for a site I run, and
there's a premium of just over £300 for an EV cert from Verisign (£196 for a
Secure Site cert, £525 for a Secure Site + EV). That's a lot of money to
turn a green bar on (all the other features of the cert are identical,
including the company verification, it's just that you pay £300+ for an
extra couple of flags in the certificate data. Looks like I'll be sticking
to Geotrust or Comodo again :P
