Security of Automatic Updates from Microsoft

How do I know that when my computer signals an update is available it is a
genuine Microsoft update and my computer only goes to a Microsoft site and
not a mirrored one?

You can add the following 3 sites to trusted sites, and then it will not be
a "mirror":

1. Close all Internet Explorer windows, and any other Internet browser
windows.
2. Open one Internet Explorer window
3. Click Tools
4. Click Internet Options...
5. Click the Security tab
6. Click the Trusted Sites icon
7. Click the Sites button
8. Add the following 3 websites (warning, this will change in the near
future, so stay tuned....)
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.microsoft.com
