I get an error code 0x643 when I try to download this update. Can anyone
help or even know if this update is really necessary or can I do without it.
Thanks

code 643

Suggestion Pat Walters MSFT:

Please try the following:

Check the My_Computer_Zone has FullTrust permissions enabled:

1. Click Start
2. Click Control Panel
3. Double-click Administrative Tools
4. Click to select the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Framework
Configuration tool.
5. Drill-down to Runtime Security Policy
6. Then Machine
7. Then Code Groups
8. Then Machine
9. Code Groups
10. All_Code
11. Then Right-click on My_Computer_Zone.
12. Click the Permission Set tab
13. Verify and/or change permission set to FullTrust.
14. Reboot the machine
15. Try the installation once more and see if this works for you.

I'm getting the same error on this update. Tried the suggested steps below;
my code group is also already at Full Trust. No change afterwards; still
have the error. Any alternative suggestions???

I had this problem too and this is how I fixed the issue on my machine. I
was originaly trying to install the update rollup 2 for Windows XP Media
Center. I went to the web page below and after I was able to successfully
load Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 and Update Rollup 2 for
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB900325).

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=900325

"If the 886904 update is installed, you must uninstall the 886904 update
before you install Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center
Edition 2005. Otherwise, the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installation will not
succeed."

This is what I suggest you to do:
Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs

Make sure the Show updates checkbox is checked

Scroll Down and look for Mircrosoft .NET Framework Hotfix (KB886904)

Click on the the hotfix and click on remove.

Then reboot your computer.

You should now be able to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service
Pack 1

If you are unable to uninstall the hotfix that means you have already
tried or that you have uninstalled the Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1.
I do not know how to tell you to work around this problem. I had this
problem before I found the web page above and I ened up reloading my machine
and starting from scratch.

I hope this helps you out.

I followed your suggestion and it worked. I simply removed the 886904
update, rebooted, and installed the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. When
I returned to the Windows update site, it notified me that the Security Patch
886904 was available for download. I did that and the .NET Framework 1.1
Service Pack 1 is no longer listed as a necessary download.

PLEASE do not post in all capital letters as it's considered as
SHOUTING !!!
Thanks.

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, or
2.0, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows
Installer error code "1603"
