Security Update for Excel viewer 2003 (KB94064)

Installation failure for security Update for Excel Viewer 2003 (KB940604)
I have tried numerous times. Get Error Code 0x80070643.

I 'm using Windows XP Home Sp2. Do NOT have Office, have Microsoft Works. I
downloaded the Excel Viewer

If you deleted the Excel Viewer *installation* file than the update will
never install.
Open Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Uninstall the updates for Microsoft Office Excel Viewer 2003 by starting
from the LAST update listed.
Then uninstall Excel Viewer.

Download it again and save the installation file, xlviewer.exe.

When the download finishes move xlviewer.exe to your My Documents
folder. Doing this will mitigate the installation failure of any
subsequent Security updates for it.
Install it from there by going to Start > Run > click the Browse button
and click the My Documents icon in the left frame.
Locate and then click on xlviewer.exe to highlight it
Click the Open button
Click OK and it will install

When the installation is finished go back to Start > Run > type in

wuauclt /detectnow
Click OK
Any needed Security updates should now be detected by Automatic Updates
and then downloaded.
Install them in the order presented.

That was included in the last SP for the Excel Viewer.
Maybe you don't need it, if you installed the SP.

Lydia had installed Excel Viewer 2003. She does NOT have Office installed.
Therefore, there is no SP for her to install.

If the SP was offered than a previous Security update was not installed,
mae. And, thanks for posting the link to it. Never knew that one was
available.

Thank you. You're too kind. Am glad you've never had a problem viz a viz
updating. The only one I've encountered was ... an update failure with
Office Viewers. That was because I'd deleted the installation files of
said Viewers.
Wouldn't it be nice if MS included that information on the download
pages for said Viewers ? <w>
