Security Update Issue

I have installed (or the system tried to
install) "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer
6 Service Pack 1 (KB867801)". After clicking to install,
it says successful. I reboot the system and all seems OK.
However, there are two problems.
1. The system does not recognize that I have installed the
update, and I can go back and repeat the process as many
times as I want with no change.
2. (The bigger issue) I am trying to install some new
software and the system will not allow me to do so because
it thinks I need thinks something was installed and the
system must be reboot. "Setup has detected that another
program requires the computer to reboot. You must reboot
the computer before installing VS .NET Windows Component
Update. Once the system reboots, you need to restart
setup...". I can reboot all day without solving the issue.

How can I get this update to finish the install, or get it
out??? Either one would be fine with me.

Thanks

I recall reading an article addressing this a looong time ago. The IE
installation doesn't fully complete unless you reboot into safe mode, then do
a normal reboot. I don't remember the cause, and this may not be the same
issue you've encountered. Can't hurt, though.

I tried to do the reboot into Safe Mode, and even did a
CHKDSK, but the problem is still there...

Any new ideas?

Try a search?

<title>KB830608 - PRB: "Setup Has Detected That Another Program Requires the Computer to Reboot" Error Message When You Try to
Install Visual Studio .NET</title>

(MSKB Titles only search for
setup, reboot
)
