Save the PC & throw XP out the window. .Net framework 2.0 update did the
same to me I ignored it for months. When I finally decided to attempt
installing it again I found an article saying to uninstall all versions and
then install 2.0 again & then the patch. All that and cleaning along with
defragging the registry took about an hour and a half. The patch finally
installed, however when going back to windows update it said I needed .net
patch 1.1 which now won’t install. Maybe I should have put that in after
installing 2.0. Are they jerking around here or what? Shouldn’t 1.1 have been
in 2.0? Do they do this on purpose to encourage movement to a newer OS? Maybe
if I uninstall everything again 1.1 will install after 2.0 but before 2.0
patch and that after 1.1. I’ll let you know in a couple of hours or days, if
I don’t reinstall the whole OS, after all system restore works but disables
some programs in the process.
