Does anyone know why I cannot install Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903)? I am using Virtual PC
v6.1, Windows 2000 SP4 (most updates), 128 MB of RAM, and a PowerBook G4
1 Ghz 15" (512 MB of RAM; Mac OS X 10.2.8). I get this error:

SL8E.tmp - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x3e4 (996), Thread id=0x148 (328).

Windows Update.log file says:

This same issue happens with Virtual PC 2004 for Windows. The
resolution was to remove the Virtual Machine Additions. I'm not sure
that's a wise thing to do permanently, but it's worth a shot to see if
it actually does resolve it.

Eh, I think I will leave it alone until MS fixes the problem. Please
do let me know if it is fixed so I can try again.

If it works on a PC, then Microsoft will not allocate any resources to
get it working in Virtual PC. Microsoft does not guarantee that any
software, including Microsoft products, will work in VPC. So, if you
want to wait for Microsoft to fix it, my advice is to pack a very big
lunch. It will be a long wait.
