Windows Update is continually trying to install the above update but always
fails. I have tried restarting my system several times and running Registry
Cleaner (Regcure) to see if I could clear this issue. What should I do?
Should I uninstall .NET and re-install and if so where do I go to get the
correct .NET?

Thank you for help

1. Uninstall the .NET Framework version(s) in question;

2. Download and run this Uninstall Clean-up tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...4-97BD16967A09

3. Search the MS Download Center
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx) for the .NET Framework
version(s) you need to reinstall, then download & install them;

4. Download/install the update(s) via Windows Update or Automatic Updates.

I am presently showing in my Add/Remove Programs, Microsoft .Net Framework
2.0, Size 88.69 MB....with a Security Update (KB928365)...it also shows 1.1
plus 1.1 Hotfix however, although I can't delete them, I believe I did remove
them using the Windows Install Cleanup because there is NO SIZE SPACE
indicated as being used!
So, I guess my question to you is do I need to uninstall the 2.0 from my
Add/Remove Programs and then go ahead & install the Microsoft .Net Framework
Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)? If this is correct, will it get
rid of the Install Icon on my desktop (since July 12th) and which is
referring to the 1.1 Net Framework which I do not have? Wow, sorry to be so
verbal however, had to explain best I could..........if you can help P A
Bear, I would be so grateful.........
Many thanks, Chappy

You've replied to someone else's thread.

Don't "delete" anything yet.

Please state your Windows version, the specific .NET Framework update(s)
(e.g., KB123456) you're having problems with, and then tell us what /your/
problem is (e.g., the update keeps be offered).

If .NET Framework 2.0 and related hotfix 928365 are both listed in
Add/Remove Programs, the update for 2.0 is already installed.

If .NET Framework 1.1 and related hotfix 928366 are both listed in
Add/Remove Programs, the update for 1.1 is already installed.

I've tried this without any luck. Problems began last Tuesday when trying to
install net.2.0 security update. At that time, since I wasn't using .net
framework, I uninstalled both 3.0 and 2.0. Both are half uninstalled, and in
Add/remove are present, but cannot be repaired or removed. Was sucessful in
download/install for .Net 1.1, but unsucessful in DL 1.1sp1 or 2.0. Did not
try to DL 3.0
Also lost function of DVD and CD-R.
This has been a week, now. It seems as if MS is as clueless as this biologist.
Help, or admit defeat.

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot, AVG
Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA).

Hi PA Bear

Thanks for your helpful suggestion but it didn't work.

I tried to uninstall .NET from within the control panel and it was gathering
information to uninstall then just closed leaving .NET still registered in
the program list.

I checked I have the latest installer and i do - 3.1

I then ran the clean-up tool

I then went to MS Download centre and downloaded the latest .NET 1.1
Framework.

Then ran the Windows Update and it failed again.

Any ideas?

Good try, but no cigar. I'll just leave my front and rear doors open all
night....maybe someone will come in and steal this machine so I can buy a
Mac. I tried the incident request last week. Their suggestions did not work,
either. When i tried to reply to the Tech's inquiries, my e-mail bounced.
Which, BTW, is what MS is doing to it's customers by dragging us through this
crud until you figure out the problem.
Very Transparent.
