Security Update for .NET SP1 Update keeps failing on Vista Busines

I upgraded my Compaq Laptop XP Home to Vista Business. All my other updates
will install fine but a Security Update for .NET SP 1 keeps failing. I also
get an "error code 643". I attempted the fix suggested for this by turning on
Services for Office Sourse Engine to "Automatic" instead of manual, but that
still has not worked any suggestions

Michael, do you see *any* other threads here about the same problem??

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, or 2.0,
you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error
code "1603":

I had to install a new "C" drive "Windows Ultimate" and I can download but
not install Update Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Everything else seems to be
working fine but not this. I got the error code 80070002. and the suggestions
were to delete temp. update files then restart Windows Update service. Tried
it three times with no luck. Any ideas from someone smarter than me?

I checked out that KB923100 and applied the fixes listed-still no deal.
What next?

Did you manually download/install all .NET Framework versions and SPs that
you removed?
