Security Update space

So, I want to know why security updates take up room on my harddrive and why
I need to keep all the previous updates in order to keep my computer running
at it's full capacity. My computer was running fine, albeit very full, with 1
gig of space left. Now I have a new update and WAM 535 MB left on the drive.

But can I get rid of the previous updates? NO. the computer says, "Will not
run properly" What gives? Shouldn't an update replace the previous one? Or is
that not how the universe works, and if I intend to use a Windows computer, I
should just get used to the idea that the Security Updates will eventually
kill my harddrive?

I'll generally kill off any security update and service pack older than
[let's say] 2 months. If I haven't seen a problem in 2 months, there probably
isn't one.

Clearing out SP2 and every security fix since then can save you over 1GB of
space. Add extra space that can be recuperated if you have non-security fixes
installed as well.

*IF* you are familiar with the registry you can remove the updates from the
Add/Remove [as per PA Bear's link] via the registry. Don't try this method
unless you are QUITE familiar with the registry.
