Security update for Win 98 conflict with Norton Anti Virus

I just downloaded several Security Updates for Windows 98 (while I did this I
had disabled my Norton Virus software as advised). I had no problem with the
downnload itself and I have no problem actually using Internet Explorer, but
when I go to close out of IE, my whole computer locks up if Norton is enabled
(if Norton is disabled this doesn't seem to happen). So there seems to be
some sort of conflict between one of the security patches and Norton. Anyone
else encounter this? And how did you fix it? Thanks

Same problem occurs with F-Secure virus protection. Can't find a solution.

I am sorry you are running into this issue. While the installation of some
updates to Windows 98 appear to either be a catalyst, the problem is no longer
really a Windows Update issue. Please post this question to the following
newsgroup, as they have people with more experience in this issue and can help
you more quickly. Please do post back the solution, however, when you find it.
