I have WinXP SP2 with all updates installed (except French grammar checking
stuff) and Automatic Windows Update turned on and nearly every day have the
following security update that wants to install.

Security Update (for Windows XP KB835732)

I have installed it numerous times and it always shows up again for later
installation. What is the deal with this update? I have rebooted, etc. and
it always shows again as a needed update. This is getting quite irritiating!

None of these suggestions worked. I am still being prompted again to install
this update, which I have done numerous times. Any other ideas?

You tried downloading the update direct to your HDD from here then
installing it manually.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

One of my PCs always fails to install via M$ Updates - I have to DL
and manually install on it.

I did as you suggested and it still behaves as it always has. It
successfully installed and within one minute I had another "Updates are
ready..." system tray icon pop up. I even went to the Control Panel to try
and uninstall this hotfix, but there is no option to uninstall it.

Anybody have any other suggestions?

Sorry it didn't work, looks like it has not installed properly, just
enough to screw up the updates system and not allow you to uninstall /
re-install it.

There is a lot more info here including uninstall information other
than using Add / Remove programs.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS04-011.mspx

Its a bit technical though, may help.

The other thing you can try is turn system restore off then Ctrl Alt
Delete - force the update prompt to stop and reboot. Because its not
installed correctly Windows thinks its not installed so keeps
prompting, system restore may be causing it to retry on re - boots.
Probably won't do any good and even if it does stop the irritation you
still have a broken critical update which needs fixing.

You have to get it out properly before you can re-install it, I don't
know enough to help any further, hopefully someone more experienced
than I am will enlighten you.
