Windows Update already installed
http://www.updatexp.com/windows-upda...installed.html

Windows Update says the update is still needed

Also check the following:
Locate the C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2 folder and make sure that the file edb.log is not set to
read only.

Otherwise you could test:-
Prevent Windows Update from prompting you to install a Hotfix you know is already installed - WinXP
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...fix_prompt.htm
There are no guarantees of course.

Check to see if it's actually installed using one of these. You can also check you update history
on the WU site.

Qfecheck.exe Verifies the Installation of Windows XP Hotfixes:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=282784

More Info:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/using_qfecheck.htm
Displays the list of all Windows updates (Service Packs and Hotfixes) installed on your local
computer.
www.nirsoft.net
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wul.html

Some users prefer: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit

If it is installed, then go the WU site and choose to hide the update.
If it's not installed check the WU Log - there may be some clues in there

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error code(s) associated with
the latest failed attempt to download/install. If appropriate copy and paste the error codes into
this thread so someone may be able to assist you. On the other hand, you may be able to find the
error code and other suggestions by searching the Newsgroup.

Also check Windows folder for file called KB893066.log and post the contents of the failed update.
This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=902093

Mandy could you post the errors messages in the Windows Update Log.

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error
code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install. If
appropriate copy and paste the error codes into this thread
