After installing this update I restarted to this error:
================================================== ======
RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Reloation

The Ssystem DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not
run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for
Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a
new DLL.
================================================== ======

The file properties for HHCTRL.OCX are:

File version: 5.2.3790.2847

Description: Microsoft® HTML Help Control

Copyright: © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

It looks like MSFT broke its own operating system!

Do you really make use of the Realtec HD Audio Control Panel?
In case you don't, disabling the start of that application via
Start -> Run -> msconfig -> System Start may be an acceptable
workaround.

How can I see/test if I really use the realtec HD Audio Control Panel?
I mean, all functions of the 'normal' Audio Control Panel seem to be working
normally ... (?)

Disable it via msconfig and reboot Windows. If you don't miss anything,
you aren't using it ;-)

KB935448 is now available via DownloadCenter for public download too.
No more need to call MS Support to get this "hotfix":
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

FWIW,

Hi,

I had the very same problem until I downloaded and applied the hotfix
mentioned in this thread. It worked fine for me, everything is now back in
order!

I went to this page but when I push "continue" on the hotfix page, its says
the page is no longer available. And when I search for this hotfix it doesn't
even come up. What gives??
