When I update this update will fail... Is it important to update? I'm
confused. It gives you information on how to Uninstall. Tried that and can't
find it to unstall.
Can anyone help me????

Thank you,

Hi Tracy,

Many of us are having the same problem with this particular update. I have
searched it out and tried everyting that Microsoft said concerning this error
msg and nothing works. So I have no idea why it is even offering it to
people with SP3 installed in their computers. Guess we will have to wait for
Microsoft to fix this problem as I am out of ideas. I use WindowsXP MCE SP3
and have had no problems until today and it will not even let you turn that
portion of the particular update off. So something is amiss for sure.

Does anybody at Microsoft look at this and think they ought to do something
to help us? Even if it's just to tell us not to worry?

I an having the same issue. I have tried many many times and it fails each
time. I had Microsoft Office 2003 for a 60 day free trail I did not
purchanse or convert to Microscoft Office 2003. Today using the Automatic
update I got 9 updates for Microsoft Office 2003 that isucceeded.
I also got Office Service Pack 3., that suceeded. I got A Security Update
for Capicom ( not sure what that is) that suceeded. But the Security Upadte
for Window XP (KB89589) did not. I did a serach and found the Update and
tired to daownload ti from there and got a message that the update was
earlier than what I currently have.
It apears that Microsfot is having a problem.

I had the same problem THe problem i have is that I have SP3 installed and a
newer version of this update is is SP3. Go to the the drive tat has your
OPerating system open up the Windows Folder go to the bottom that list the
KBs go to kb 899589 open up that folder and it will tell you why it did not
install. This is the message I get
1.015: 2008/06/18 22:38:20.171 (local)
1.015:
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\cddbefa16 5dabeb577b6952c247eddf9\update\update.exe (version 6.1.22.4)
1.015: Hotfix started with following command line: /si
/ParentInfo:c30474f3adf5bf4cb087ca464b0e2ed5
1.015: CheckSystem: ServicePack version Mismatch
1.015: DoInstallation: CheckSystem Failed: 0xf06b
1.015: Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system
is newer than the update you are applying.

There is no need to install this update.
1.015: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf06b
I spent 2 hours on with Microsoft and they were no help. They will get back
to me.

I checked as you suggested and found the same message that you did. Thanks
for the imformation that you posted. It does help to know that someone else
got the same message as I did. I sent 2 email reports and they said I would
recieve an answer in 24 hours.. I wonder if the problems lies in that are
chanigng the update system to "bets"?
I will be checking back to see if onyone has gotten an answer.

Thaks Vic for the info, I myself did not see this as a serious thing, but
more of a annoying thing that should not be happening to begin with. I
thought (and have no idea if it is true or not or why microsoft is offering
it through auto updates again) that this update did not apply to those who
had SP3 and it seems it does not.

Now, to get it to stop offering it to us before it does some real damange to
someone. The update notice that want to continue to pop us is veyr annoying
and if yo turn off auto updates it nags you more than your doctor does. I
think we should have the right to turn off auto updates if we want and not be
nagged about it.

Ivan Just hide this up date in windows update. You will not see it unless you
request it. Microsoft should delete it from SP3 running systems
