Control Panel/Folder Options, VIEW tab has a checkbox to expose file
extensions of 'known filetypes'

Unfortunately I have done that already. Then I open the folder that has
the file I wish to change the extension for and when I go to "View" my
only option (besides the size of the thumbnails) is "Details" which I
have checked. I still do not see the file extension no less have the
ability to change it. Thanks though.

Carol,

Did you do Step One in the tutorial?

You can open "Folder Options" by clicking on "Organize" then "Folder
and Search Options". In Folder Options, uncheck "Hide extensions for
known file types" and click OK.

Go to Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-View, and uncheck the "Hide extensions
for known file types" button. This should give you what you need.
