Running Vista and every time I plug in my new USB drive, the OS does not see
it. If I reboot, then it appears. Any ideas? Thanks.

When you say the OS does not see it what do you mean? Meaning it doesn't
Autorun or you can't view it if you go to My Computer? Also have you
tried a different USB port?

If it doesn't Autorun--Popup and say view my files when you plug it in.
Then USB autorun might be disabled.

Hi, John.

What does Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) say about that USB drive?

You might need to format it and assign a drive letter.

OK, I see the problem. The flash drive is trying to use drive 'F', but drive
'F' was being utilized by another share.

Hi, John.

Why not use Disk Management to (semi-)permanently assign that flash drive to
Drive X: - or some other letter that you won't stumble over every time you
insert it?

When left to its own devices, Disk Management assigns each new device "the
next available letter", which can often create conflicts. But, except for
the System and Boot drives, you can assign - and reassign - the letters you
want, and Disk Management will try to always assign those letters to the
same devices each time they are plugged in.

RC

Thank you for the help. I had the same problem and Disk Management fixed
it.
