Send files in email how to?

I am having an issue trying to send a file (photos) as an attachment in
emails.
When I click on a file and hit the task "email this folder", I have a screen
pop up that says "preparing to send". When that screen goes away there is no
provision to send it as an email.
I don't know where the photos are going when they are being prepared to
send, nothing happens after that.
No email box, nothing at all.
I cannot figure out what is going on. Anyone have an answer?

What program are you in where you are seeing "email this folder"?

Why don't you just start a new email in Windows Mail and click on its
Attach button?

I have Windows XP and my photo files are in "My Documents" "My pictures".
The task bar has an option to "email this file". When I click that task to
email, a screen comes up that says "preparing to send" (sizing the photos
for email). After that happens I would expect to see a box to send the email
but I get nothing.
It prepares the photos to send and that is all.

Somehow you got misdirected to the wrong forum (actually newsgroup).
This particular forum only deals with Vista's Windows Mail program.

I'm having the same problems with Vista Home (Dutch).$ Working in Wondows
Fotogalerie, I can select a picture and then choose the option "e-mail". I
can let windows change the size of the picture, then click "OK". WQindows
seems to change the size of the picture, but 'windows mail' doesn't start up.

Try this:
Go to Default Programs, which you can access either from the Start menu
or via the Control Panel, then click the first item: "Set your default programs."
After a few seconds a list of programs comes up. Click on Windows Mail.
If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults" then fix it by
clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.
