Hello, I'm sure some of you remember the net send command from XP which
sent messages to other computers on the local network. I windows vista
this is apparently "changed" to the msg command. I followed the
'instructions on this site'
The problem is that the computers now have to be in the same "domain".
Both of the computers I try this on are in the same workgroup but both
of them have nothing in the domain field. I wondered if anyone had a
solution to this so that we would be able to send messages to computers
in the network without setting up a domain - one of my computers are a
laptop and is often moved around to various networks in school etc so
setting up a domain would not exactly be convenient.

I`m afraid it may well be time to take the easy way out and use some

ah... that's too bad. Don't really like installing small tools..
microsoft could've made this simpler while still maintaining security..

Yes, a number of them use winpopup and variations of it and some appear
to me to contain either spyware or else have bugs that you don't spot at
first but then end up making the tool worthless.

I found one bit of useful sounding information on one of them but please
don't take this as a recommendation, all I can honestly tell you is that
anything with a closeable window will probably be closed by users, and
anything without such may be a liability in the long term.
