using new dell vista home premium, e521 desktop, windows mail, IE7.

first time trying to send a page or a link by email, when viewing the page
in ie7.

the selections from file>send> page by email greyed out, & link by email
greyed out. shortcut to desktop is dark.

i don't know if it matters, but i installed microsoft word 2002, &
uninstalled "microsoft office SB
2003 trial version", which i never activated. the office trial version was
factory installed by dell.

is there a way to activate the send page by email & send link by email under
the file menu?

thank you, len kiesling

Hi,
Are you using Outlook or Outlook Express as the default e-mail program?

Does the proper program show as default in Control Panel> Add or remove
programs> Set program access and defaults?

Is your chosen default program shown in Internet Options> Programs> E-mail?

If you want Outlook Express to be the default, go to Start> Run and paste in
this command then hit enter:
"C:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /reg
assuming that's the path to msimn.exe. The Office installations may have
broken registry settings for OE.

If you want Outlook to be the default, try the DefaultMail utility from
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultmail.htm

Hope this helps,
Don

Assuming that you use Windows Mail:
Control Panel | Programs | Default Programs | Set your default programs.
Make sure Windows Mail is the default mail program.

thank you for replies. using windows mail.

i set windows mail as default thru control panel as directed. restarted IE7.
no change.

send page by email & send page by link stll greyed out. could the
uninstallation of the "microsoft office SB 2003 trial version", have caused
it?

any further ideas greatly appreciated!

thank you, len kiesling

Yes, it could. Especially if you let it install Outlook.

I got an update for Office 2007 overnight and it stole the default from
WinMail even though Outlook has never, ever been installed on this machine.

Leonard,

Use these steps:

Click Start, Default Programs
Click "Set program access and computer defaults"
Click "Custom", select "Windows Mail"
Click OK.

This ought to fix the problem.
