SP2."Set program access and defaults" did not fix this problem.

Many thanks.

Open Windows Explorer and click Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
In the (NONE) file extensions make sure MailTo points to OE.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/defaultl.htm

Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both
IE and OE.

If that isn't enough, see this article:
"Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098

You might also want to try this:

Restores OE to the E-mail clients list in Internet Options
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/oe_client.htm

To set Outlook as the default mail client,- Go to Start, Run - Type in the
following with quotation marks and press OK
"C:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient
For more information on Outlook see:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/defaultmailer.htm

I really hesitate to make these changes in the registry.I did re-install IE7
and no joy, still cannot send page or link to OE,no action at all when I use
the page button and/or the file button.

Any other ideas out there?

I had this same problem with W98 and IE5 awhile back but can't remember the
fix.

I have toggled between IE6 and IE7 many times in XP and have not had this
problem until recently.

Also have exhausted the search engines for fixes.

Many thanks for the interests.

I added the data string to the default mail client key per 306098 and it
fixed the problem.
Thanks for all the help folks.
