Sent emails not moved from Outbox to Sent folder

Using Windows Live Mail (Version 2009 Build 14.0.8089.0726) I often find that
sent emails are not moved from my Outbox to my Sent folder.

When first discovering this I would resend the email in the Outbox or query
the intended recipient (with apologies), asking if the email had been
received. In each instance the email HAD been sent, just never moved to the
Sent folder.

1) Is there any way I can determine if mail sitting in my Outbox has
actually been sent -- without querying the recipient?

2) Is there any way I can get Windows Live Mail to properly move sent emails
from the Outbox to the Sent folder?

Many thanks.

Hi, Norton.

How many Sent items folders do you have? There should be one for EACH Mail
Account (plus one for news posts).

But there's only one Outbox. So if you Sent a message from Mail Account B,
you would see it in the Outbox until it got sent. Then you would not see it
in Mail Account A's Sent items - but you should find it in Sent items under
Account B.

This theory doesn't work, of course, if you have only a single mail account.

Thanks, RC.

I do have multiple accounts (and thus multiple Sent Items folders) but that
isn't the confusion. It seems fairly clear that emails actually sent (from
my primary address at least, which accounts for more than 90% of my usage)
are just never shifted to the appropriate Sent Items folder but linger
indefinitely in the Outbox.

In the past, after determining through follow up messages that the email
actually had been successfully sent, I have manually moved/copied the sent
mail to its proper Sent Items folder, and I can continue to do so, but I
really do wish for a consistent record and sorting of sent mail...

NOTE: This occurs only for about 1 in 10 (maybe 1 in 15) sent emails, and so
far as I can determine there is no pattern in its occurrence: neither
according to recipient, attachment, forward, reply, etc.

Otherwise I am pleased with Live Mail. I just do not want to regularly have
to send follow up messages asking if the previous email was indeed
successfully sent.

Thanks again.

I run AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (version 9.0.851), and while on its
'E-Mail Scanner Component' page it reports "E-mail Scanner is active" neither
the "Scan incoming messages" box nor "Scan outgoing messages" box is checked.

(Whether those are unchecked in an effort to deal with the Live Mail problem
I cannot recall. More likely it's because I generally try to keep the
running of the machine, loaded components, cross-program interactions etc. as
simple as I can get away with...

For what it's worth, I'm running a fully updated Vista Home Premium, Build
6002, Service Pack 2.)

Thanks,
Norton

It is best to uninstall AVG and reinstall without the email scanning
component.

Check to insure you have told WLM to save copies of sent mail in the Sent
Items folder.
Tools...Options....click on Send tab at top...make sure a check mark appears
before "Save copy of sent messages in the 'Sent Items' folder."

As for any email remaining in the Outbox, on the same area listed above
insure you have a checkmark before "Send messages immediately".

Once you have that set up, any message remaining in the Outbox most likely
has an error in the addressing and can't be sent until you correct the
error. If it's not important you can avoid the WLM warning box that appears
when you start up WLM by deleting that email from your Outbox.

You enquired whether there is any way to determine whether mail
sitting in your Outbox has actually been sent -- without querying
the recipient?

Enter your own email address in the Blind Copy (Bcc field,
before you send the message. That will send an additional copy
of the message to yourself. Then, you will know the message has
left your computer, when you receive the copy.

Turning to your other questions, does this problem affect all of
your mail accounts, or just one?

If it happens with one account only, what is the name of the mail
service provider. (Please tell us the part of your email address
that follows the @ symbol - but NOT your full email address.)

Also, please confirm whether the mail account has been configured
on your computer as a POP3, HTTP or IMAP account.
