serious problem with vista

almost everything i do ends up restarting windows explorer and shutting
down whatever program/file im working in
it happens when i try to copy and paste, drag and drop, uninstall,
install, right click on the desktop, delete anything from program files
im sure there are more situations where this might occur i just haven't
found them yet...
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
i've already run a system restore btw

If you have already done a restore and you still have problems, try doing a
clean install. If you are able to do a clean install, update the system
drivers and video drivers right away.

If your machine is new, contact the vendor and get some help from them.

You didn't mention if you were running Vista or Vista SP1. Many of those
copy problems were solved with Vista SP1. You can download SP1 [Service Pack
One] from Microsoft's website. You can also order the CD if I remember
correctly.

yes i am running vista SP1
and as for how old the machine is
i've had it for several months
