Hi,
I wrote yesterday (9/3/04, 3:09 PM) titled "serious
problems after SP2 installed". You were kind enough to
reply with a suggested solution. I followed your
instructions explicitly; ran "sfc /scannow". Removed SP2
and reinstalled it according to the instructions from
www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins. I also followed your
instructions pertaining to resetting my restoration
points.
It now appears as if I have several restoration points
from yesterday.haven't tried to restore any yet.
Hopefully that issue has been cured.
Norton anti virus will still not run. I get an error
message (4002,517), go to their site and it address three
issues that could cause it. Neither of them addresses my
issues, but I tried them anyway.still no good. Also ran
Symantec's Automated Support but to no avail. Norton says
everything is fine.
I uninstalled Norton System Works and reinstalled it 3
times and I am still not allowed to enable Norton anti
virus (updates are complete)
The MS Security Center keeps popping up messages about my
firewall as well. I keep un-checking the box that I
don't want to be notified and I also indicate that I have
my own firewall, yet every time I reboot, I get the same
message again.
My computer shuts off faster now than before - thank
you. After I turn it on, once the desktop appears, it
takes a long time for all my icons to appear (almost 1
minute). Once they do, if I click on an icon, it takes
about 30 seconds for the program to start to open.
I really appreciate the help you've offered so far, and
if you don't mind, I'd like to impose on you a bit more.
Have you any other ideas or suggestions as to what I can
do to get my problems rectified? Everything was fine
prior to installing SP2.
Thank you very much,
Allan
